Nobody is immune

I've been running Sundays with B, a really nice 40 year-old lawyer in the DC area. He's the real deal, an ex-collegiate basketball player who ran his first marathon in 3:13. He went 1:26 in the Philly half last year. We had designs on pacing each other in Boston, though I confess I was worried I'd hold him back. Now B's out. Tendinitis in the left leg apparently became something worse, and today he told me Boston is a no-go; the National half is on ice; and he'll be happy to be back in time for the Marine Corps Marathon this fall. Something like that happens to all of us sooner or later, but I hate to see it. And now I have to spend 2:00 tomorrow running by myself.
