Just a guess, but I doubt hundreds of gifted Ethiopian distance runners are accustomed to paying their own entry fees. This looks to be a fund-raiser targeting guys just like the runningprofs.
I go with cool. I heard Addis Ababa is one of the best cities in the world to visit, too. Unfortunately, this is scheduled more or less exactly when my tenure dossier is due!
